The Loudoun County government is activating the Loudoun County Major Event Hotline for people who have non-emergency questions related to the record-setting snowstorm and the significant storm that is expected to arrive shortly.

The hotline, 703-737-8300, is intended for non-emergency calls. The hotline will be active throughout the current snow event. As always, call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.

Trash pick-up update

CSI is sending all trash trucks to residents today. They do not have an inclement weather policy, and make a decision on a day-to-day basis. If you would like to know whether or not to put your trash or recyclables out this week, please call CSI at 703.444.3181. Please be sure to remove your trash & recycle bins from the curb so they will not interfere with any plowing.

For those of you on Samantha Drive, VDOT’s guidelines state they have 4 days to remove snow over 18″, so it may be a while before the snow is removed.

Snow storm reminders! Please read!

Please read the message from Centex (who is handling cleaning our streets!) on handling the snow storm. We ask that residents use driveways and open parking lot spaces within the sections for overflow parking. Remove trash cans and recycle bins from the sides of the roads. Shovel driveways after the plows come through if at all possible. Most of all have patience with the operation, it is a difficult task and the contractors are working to do the best they can do for hours and hours at a time. They will shuffle equipment and manpower on and off the sites as they hours pass. During this type of an event, equipment does take a beating and will sometimes need repair in the middle of the event, so a plow may be down for a time until it can be replaced with another piece of equipment or repaired on site. The good thing is the contractor is local, in Leesburg, and can get to the sites fairly quickly when these repairs are needed.

Snow Storm Information and Reminders!

A reminder regarding this weekend’s “significant” snow storm: Please know that you are responsible for removing snow from sidewalks that touch your property. We have a contractor who will take care of the walkways in the common areas.

Centex is responsible for snow removal on the streets (except Samantha Dr, which is under the care of VDOT and who did a good job with the past snowfall).

Please be patient with snow removal with a storm of this significance. As was the case with the December 19th storm, it may take a while for the crews to make it to our neighborhood. There were several complaints about the timeliness of the service with the last storm. Please know that our neighborhood streets were cleared 1-2 days prior to several other communities in Sterling. We should be fortunate to be dug out when we are. We are working to obtain contact information should have a specific concern (snow piled in front of your driveway, for example). Hopefully, some of these issues will not be a problem again.

Please take caution when driving this weekend!

Samantha Dr - snow removal update

Just received confirmation from Centex that their contractor WILL be clearing Samantha Drive tonight. They asked that we give them time to get it done, then they will come back to clean it. There seems to be some confusion over who is in charge of Samantha Dr, but the Board worked hard to get the rest of Samantha Dr cleared ASAP.

Again, we appreciate everyone’s patience with the snow removal process. Please drive safely!

We just heard from Centex, who is in charge of clearing our streets:

Been in contact with all at KGI and they are hard at it and on site and more trucks coming and will stay til all is completed. As you said this is very unusual and all are working tirelessly to stay on it. Any questions let me know. Thank you all for your patience.

As for those on Samantha Drive, that is maintained by VDOT, and will be cleared when VDOT gets to it. (so, I wouldn’t expect it to be cleared anytime soon…) According to VDOT’s web site, it will most likely be Wed night before subdivisions are passable.

We encourage you to check back for more updates as we receive them.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please remember that everyone who lives in a neighborhood is in the same boat. This was a lot of snow and it takes a while to clear every street.
